Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Latest Update: 17 Stations Cleared, Services to Begin Soon
The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro latest update confirms that the much-awaited Line 3 (Pink Line) has cleared its final regulatory hurdle, with the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) granting approval for passenger operations. According to officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the remaining technical formalities are being completed and passenger services are expected to commence within the next 10 to 15 days.
Safety Clearance Covers 17 Stations
The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro latest update shows that the CMRS approval process, which concluded on September 23, initially covered 12 stations. Following a detailed review, the safety commissioner extended clearance to five additional stations, bringing the total number of approved stations to 17. The 23.3-km elevated corridor, which connects the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, is now in its final stage of readiness.
Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, Metropolitan Commissioner of PMRDA, confirmed that all preparations are in place to launch services. “The entire 23-km metro corridor and 17 stations have received clearance from the CMRS,” Chaudhari stated during a press interaction at the PMRDA headquarters in Akurdi. “The administration is ready to start services across the corridor with 17 stations. The final decision on the inauguration will be taken at the senior level.”
Six Stations to Remain Closed Initially
While 17 stations have received clearance, six stations will not be operational at launch due to pending construction work. These include Laxmi Nagar, Balewadi Phata, Baner Gaon, Baner, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and Shivajinagar. These stations are expected to become operational in the coming months as construction is completed.
The approved stations include Maan, Infosys, Wipro, Hinjewadi Phase 1, Hinjewadi Phase 2, Hinjewadi Phase 3, Megapolis Circle, Wakad Chowk, Wakad, Kaspate Wasti, and several others along the corridor leading towards the city.
Operational Details and Fares
The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3, built on a public-private partnership model at a cost of approximately ₹8,313 crore, will operate as an entirely elevated corridor. The approved fare structure is expected to range from ₹10 to ₹35 based on distance travelled, with an initial fare of approximately ₹12 for short journeys.
Focus on Last-Mile Connectivity
To ensure seamless travel for the thousands of IT professionals who commute daily to Hinjewadi, the PMRDA has undertaken a ₹426-crore project focused on last-mile connectivity. The cost of this initiative will be shared equally between PMRDA and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The plan aims to provide facilities for passengers alighting at metro stations to easily reach IT companies, offices, and other destinations in the vicinity.
Station Infrastructure Ready: A Look Inside the Hinjewadi Metro Station

While the official launch date is still being finalised, a visit to the upcoming Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk station in Hinjewadi shows that the infrastructure is largely ready for passengers. The station, which sits in the heart of the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, has been equipped with modern signage, accessibility features, and passenger amenities.
One of the most commuter-friendly additions at the station is a detailed Local Area Map installed at the entrance. This map highlights key landmarks around the station, including corporate offices like KPIT Technologies, BirlaSoft, Dassault Systèmes, and WebSym Technologies. It also marks healthcare facilities such as Ashirwad Accident & General Hospital, Shree Polyclinic, and Sanjeevan Multispeciality Hospital. Educational institutions like CN Dhavale English Medium School and Zilla Parishad School are also clearly indicated.
The map uses a clear icon-based index to help passengers identify schools, banks, markets, hospitals, parking zones, and bus stops at a glance. This is particularly useful for the thousands of IT professionals who will use the metro daily and need to navigate the last mile to their offices.

The system map displayed at the station confirms the Pink Line’s route from Maan to Shivajinagar, with a crucial interchange at Shivajinagar connecting to the existing Purple Line and the Aqua Line. This connectivity will allow commuters to travel seamlessly across Pune’s growing metro network.
Passenger Amenities and Accessibility

The station has been designed with inclusivity in mind. Signage at the station clearly outlines the Metro Rules, with instructions in both Marathi and English. Key rules include making way for women, children, and differently-abled persons, keeping the tactile path clear for visually impaired passengers, taking care of valuables, and contacting metro security guards or customer care for assistance.
The station also features dedicated parking facilities, including car parking, two-wheeler parking, cycle parking, and separate parking for differently-abled passengers. Feeder bus services are also planned to connect the station with nearby residential and commercial hubs.
Photographs from the station show wide, well-lit staircases with handrails on both sides, along with escalators for easy access to the platform level. The flooring includes tactile paving to assist visually impaired passengers, and the overall design follows the same modern aesthetic as the operational Purple Line stations.
A Game-Changer for Pune’s IT Corridor
The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion on the busy Hinjewadi-Baner-Shivajinagar road, which sees severe bottlenecks during peak office hours. Currently, the journey between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar takes approximately 90 minutes by road during peak hours; once operational, the metro is expected to reduce this travel time to around 45 minutes.
The project, which has faced multiple delays since its original target of June 2026, will provide a much-needed public transport alternative for lakhs of commuters. With the final technical formalities nearing completion, Pune’s IT workforce and daily commuters can soon look forward to a faster, more reliable commute between the city’s largest employment hub and the central business district.
