Diveagar beach accident:-8 Students from Pune Drown..

location:-Diveagar Beach

On Thursday, October 1, 2026, a picnic outing for students from a private coaching institute in Pune turned into a major tragedy when eight Class 11 and 12 students drowned in the Arabian Sea at Diveagar Beach (specifically the Dighi Sagari stretch) in Raigad district, Maharashtra.

Diveagar beach accident:-What Happened

A group of 48 people — 25 boys, 17 girls, and six teachers — from Winners Academy (a coaching centre for Class 11–12 students based in Alandi, Pune district) had travelled to Diveagar for an educational excursion/picnic. They hired a private bus for the trip from Alandi (about 170 km from Mumbai).

Around the afternoon (reports mention activity near 5:15 pm in some accounts), eight boys entered the sea to swim. They misjudged the water depth, tides, and strong undercurrents. Even though it was reportedly low tide at the time they entered, the currents pulled them into deeper waters.

Local residents, employees from Mahakali Water Sports (present at the spot), and other rescuers immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation. Seven bodies were recovered first; the eighth was found later in the evening. All eight were rushed to the primary health centre at Borli (Borli Panchatan), where they were declared dead. Post-mortem and other formal procedures followed.

The beach falls under the jurisdiction of the Dighi Coastal/Marine (Sagar) Police Station.

Diveagar beach accident:-Official Response and Reactions

Police confirmed the students were swept away after misjudging conditions. District administration issued a press note confirming all eight had died and that bodies were recovered. Police, revenue, and health department officials were present at the site for legal and administrative formalities. An investigation into the circumstances (including possible supervision or safety aspects) is underway.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called the incident “extremely heartbreaking and unfortunate.” Other leaders, including ministers Bharat Gogawale and Aditi Tatkare, and Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar, contacted local administration, sought details, directed relief measures, and expressed condolences to the families. Local MLA Mahendra Dalvi (Alibag) also voiced concern over the lack of adequate safety precautions at the beach.

Diveagar beach accident:-

Diveagar Beach is a popular tourist spot known for its coastline and nearby temples, but it has seen similar drowning incidents in the past due to unpredictable currents and changing depths. The tragedy has once again highlighted the risks of swimming in the open sea without proper awareness of local conditions.

This remains a developing story, with further official updates expected as procedures conclude and families are supported. Condolences to the affected families.

Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. For beach safety information, contact the local lifeguard station or the Raigad district administration.
