Maharashtra Voter Mapping Issues: The Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Maharashtra has issued a crucial clarification regarding voters whose names have not been mapped to polling stations or whose entries have logical discrepancies. Following the directives issued by the Election Commission of India on September 26 and 29, 2026, the Maharashtra CEO has issued a press note dated October 1, 2026, outlining relaxations for such voters.

This decision is expected to provide significant relief to thousands of voters across the state who might otherwise face difficulties in exercising their franchise.

Maharashtra Voter Mapping Issues: Key Directives Issued by CEO

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer has issued the following instructions to all District Election Officers and Booth Level Officers (BLOs):

1. No Need to Appear in Person for Such Voters

Voters who have received notices for “No Mapping” or “Logical Discrepancy” will not be required to appear in person for a hearing. Previously, such voters were summoned for a personal hearing to clarify their details.

2. BLOs to Visit Voters’ Homes

Instead of voters having to visit the election office, the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will personally visit the homes of the affected voters to collect the necessary documents and proofs. Based on these documents, the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) will take a decision on the voter’s inclusion.

3. Submission via WhatsApp Permitted

Voters who have received notices can also submit their required documents and proofs via WhatsApp to their concerned BLO. This is a significant step towards digital convenience.

4. Logical Discrepancy Cases

In cases involving logical discrepancies, a decision will be taken only after obtaining the relevant documents related to the discrepancy, or based on the report of the BLO or the Panchnama (spot report).

5. Special Camps on October 3, 4, 10, and 11

In exceptional cases where a decision cannot be taken based on the documents available, the ERO/AERO may conduct an online hearing. For this hearing, neither the voter nor any adult family member is required to be present in person.

However, voters who have received notices can submit their documents at the special camps organized at polling stations on October 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2026.

6. Special Arrangements for Vulnerable Groups

The CEO has directed that special camps and special queues be organized for vulnerable groups, including:

  • Homeless voters
  • Daily wage workers
  • Economically weaker sections
  • Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG)
  • Orphaned voters

7. No Voter to be Deprived

The Election Commission of India has reiterated that no eligible voter should be deprived of inclusion in the electoral roll. All Electoral Registration Officers have been directed to take special care to ensure this.

8. Follow-Up Actions

In cases where documents are not available in time or a decision cannot be taken based on the received documents, the election machinery will:

  • Give the voter time to submit the required documents
  • Conduct a hearing
  • Pass an appropriate order before proceeding with further action

9. Political Party Coordination

The BLOs will coordinate with the Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of political parties while contacting voters and collecting documents.

What This Means for Voters

For voters who have received notices regarding “No Mapping” or “Logical Discrepancy,” this is a significant relief. Instead of visiting election offices repeatedly, they can now:

  1. Wait for the BLO to visit their home
  2. Submit documents via WhatsApp
  3. Attend the special camps on October 3, 4, 10, or 11
  4. Participate in an online hearing if required

The entire process has been streamlined to ensure that no genuine voter is left out of the electoral roll.
